Group Decision-Making

In Task A, we came together as a group to make decisions on our site location, layout as well as a theme. With everyone's proposals and a fruitful discussion via a virtual meeting, we decided to place our micro-house in Ringlet, Cameron Highlands. We also segregated ourselves in doing tasks such as finding for furnitures for each space respectively, as well as slides and title block.

A Teammate's Responsibility

As it is a space with many furnitures, I delegated each space to each member. I was in charge of finding furnitures for the balcony. We also reminded each other of the theme so our furnitures look cohesive as a whole. Attached is the result of our group work

Task B: Individual Work

I started off the individual assignment with rough sketching, and to firstly place the visualisation of my space arrangement. With consideration of the climate conditions of my site (forest), I was also cautious with the design of my roof shape. Another consideration was the internal pedestrial flow. With a double-doored bathroom, I've intentionally made the bedroom secluded and decided to place an open kitchen.

First Draft

With careful research on technical drawing conventions, a draft with pencil is developed. Accurate measurements of furnitures, walls, doors, windows and many more were taken into account. Material symbolism was portrayed as well. Attached are the drafts of different views.

Second Draft

With the first draft approved by my tutor, I inked then with felt tip pen. Lineweight was taken into upmost consideration. Outlines for walls were inked in 0.3 mm thickness, the furniture in 0.1mm and the floor tiles and other small details were in 0.005 mm.

Final Work

Thinking and Problem-Solving Skills

As the name of the module, I became capable of thinking creatively and critically, especially in the Define stage. I've grown to be capable of analysing problems and ideas and arrive at decisions in order to proceed.

Lifelong Learning

I learned to be independent yet a team-workers. I also became capable of locating, extracting, synthesising and utilising information effectively from locations in google maps. There were tweakings needed to accommodate to site conditions, and I've learned to be intellectually engaged whenever feedbacks were given.

8-tgc-icons-horizontal_edited.jpg
Discipline Specific Knowledge

I've learned to do research on construction conventions, such as 150mm thickness of the walls. I've also successfully learned to apply these knowledge when designing my very own micro-house

Global Perspectives

I was able to understand the value and power of technical drawings. They are more than just drawings; they are also an established way of communication among a big group of construction industry.

Thinking and Problem-Solving Skills

I learned to think critically and creatively when arranging the spaces internally. It had to consider pedestrial flow, and also to fit all furnitures into a cozy place. When some furnitures were too big, the problem was resolved together as team to accommodate one another

8-tgc-icons-horizontal_edited.jpg
Communication Skills

I've learned to communicate with my group members through texts and meetings. With this, we were able to work along each other well and finish the project with everyone feeling a part of the team.

8-tgc-icons-horizontal_edited.jpg
Intrapersonal Skills

I've become capable of reflecting on my progress as a team member. I felt that I did my best, just like everyone else. Thinking back, I was self-reliant and carried my own weight as a team member. I also made my best effort to lead my team into being as efficient and inclusive as possible

8-tgc-icons-horizontal_edited.jpg
Interpersonal Skills

I've learned to input my opinions in meetings and let the whole team be always informed, so everyone would share their thoughts and opinions in return. Our team members also communicated effectively and did their tasks mindfully so no team member had to rush theirs.
