Assignment 3:
Space and Sensory -
Exploration through Spaces
An emotional user journey, light and shadow.
Produce a 1:10 model representation with its orthographic drawings in 4 weeks.
Precedent studies

I studied the materials of steel, timber, glass and concrete including their potential in creating light and shadows, and joinery details. I studied Kengo Kuma's The Exchange as a case study as I was interested in curved timbers as well.
Test Models

Before building the 1:1 structure, we made scaled test models to experiment with the form as well as to visualize certain joinery and construction details. It was a good way to test out the feasibility of the structure execution as well.
Model Construction

After several test models, the final model was built with careful workmanship.
Orthographic drawings

As the model is only a representation, we had to do drawings which would represent the real structure itself. These include support structures, material texture, and more.

Reflection
Perspective on
online learning
Due to an unfortunate Covid situation, we had one online tutorial session. The school was considerate to have an online platform for students who are international or are Covid-positive.
Self-Reflection on
the journey
I felt hopeful yet pressured for this project as it was very heavy in Grade percentage. It was also a struggle to simultaneously incorporate all considerations of form and function.
Perspective on tutor and module coordinator
My tutor was Ms. Sue May. She guided us with a motherly yet strict manner. She was helpful in giving sparks of inspiration.
